I wrote up a guide detailing the Workshop storyline with some info on a few key areas and a few tips that will hopefully help you succeed in Professions.

How profitable are professions with this overhaul in general?

At this time, not very profitable at all. When Mod15 first released there was some profit to be made if you were on top of things and made the items people needed to upgrade their workshops, or started off making some of the newer items that were considered decent beginner level 70 items at the time. All that has passed and now we have level 71-80 professions that just recently released on PC, and should be released sometime around October 1st on console.
